New Mexico let Jimmer Fredette score his share of points but shut everyone else down around him.

Even though they allowed Fredette to score 33 points, he finished just 1-9 from three-point range.

Phillip McDonald lead the way for New Mexico with 26 points, including 5-8 from beyond the arc.

The win over the Cougars gives New Mexico a surprising sweep of BYU this season. They are the only two conference losses for BYU.

Alford’s agent received calls from other schools wanting to talk to Alford, but the head coach didn’t even bothering returning them.

Even as at a school teetering between a mid-major and a power conference team, Alford is happy.

New Mexico had an excellent season, going 30-5 and winning the Mountain West Conference.

He just received a contract extension and said he wants to be the head coach at the school for as long as they will have him.

The New Mexico Lobos will see a new face in their conference this season… the Boise State Broncos. The Broncos are joining the Mountain West Conference, and hope a conference change will increase their exposure and increase their strength of schedule.

The Broncos have been frustrated the past few seasons at their inability to land in the BCS championship game. The move to the MWC could enhance their national title hopes. All of that could mean a significantly better chance at a championship game berth if they go undefeated.

This is the time of year where we see these kinds of scrambles. Boise State’s migration is one of the first of what could be many moves where teams switch conferences in the upcoming weeks.
